Every Pen Has A Story
Each pen comes with a story scroll describing the materials and processes used and signed by the artist. See the text below for an example of this pen's story.
"This handmade pen was cast and turned in Pen Studio located in Asheville, NC. Made from a Digger pinecone, Pinus sabiniana, with the common names ghost pine, gray pine, California foothill pine, and the more historically and internationally used Digger Pine. These pines are known for their edible seed laden pinecones.
A specimen Digger pinecone from the foothills of Northern California was bandsawed into slices. Several slim pieces were stacked into a mold. I decided to try a tri-color acrylic combo on this casting. Semi-opaque white with shimmering mica, a semitransparent rich copper and dark sunset gold were drizzled over the mold. The mold was held under pressure to prevent air bubbles from forming for an hour until the acrylic hardened. Once fully cured, the casting was sawed to size and drilled. The hole in the blank was back painted metallic gold to enhance shimmer and brilliance.
The blank was turned and finished with cyanoacrylate, several coats of Renaissance wax and finally polished with White Diamond compound and polished to a high gloss on a jeweler’s buffing wheel. Your pen uses Parker ballpoint or gel refills."
