This original Pen Studio acrylic casting is made from flower petals carefully dried and cast in Alumilite. The cured acrylic was cut to size and drilled. The inside of the drilled blank was back-painted with metallic gold and silver paint to give a lightly textured background for the encased botanicals.
The unstabilized voids created by the flower petals made traditional turning impossible so the barrel had to be hand sanded to shape. Exposed areas of plant matter were carefully filled with thin cyanoacrylate and re-sanded. The entire barrel was wet sanded to 12,000 grit and sealed with multiple layers of Renaissance Wax.
The polished barrel was pressed into a delicate chrome ballpoint with a laser cut vine detail below the twist top. This pen uses Parker style gel or ballpoint refills.
