Snakewood on Pewter Deer Trophy Ballpoint

This hand turned pen is mounted on an beautifully detailed pewter ballpoint. The pen tip features a relief cut scroll engraving of an authentic trophy deer mount. The rustically antiqued pewter plating brings out all the wonderful details of the engraved design. The design emulates the type of engraved game scene scrollwork found on real and highly sought after bolt-action rifles. The deer theme design is capped off with a deer mount pen clip complete with a sight scope.

The wood selected for your pen is Brosimum guianensis also known as Snakewood, Leopard wood, and Letterwood for its distinctive spotted patterns. It is a rare to occasional small tree found in Guianas, Trinidad and the Amazon region. Due to the rarity of the tree, its small diameter (12-20”) and the small percentage of highly figured wood within each tree it is one of the most expensive exotic woods per board foot worldwide. The wood is difficult to dry and turn due to high shrinkage, brittleness and tool dulling hardness, however the effort is worthwhile for the beautiful figure and high luster. Snakewood is among the densest and hardest wood species in the world.

This pen uses Parker ballpoint or gel refills.
